General.

What is Ludwitt?

Ludwitt is an AI-powered adaptive learning platform designed for learners of all ages, from K-12 students to adults seeking to rebuild foundational literacy and numeracy skills. It uses research-backed learning science including spaced repetition, mastery-based progression, and Zone of Proximal Development optimization to provide personalized education.

Who should use Ludwitt?

Ludwitt serves: (1) K-12 students who want personalized practice, (2) Adults rebuilding literacy and numeracy skills—PIAAC 2023 shows 28% of US adults struggle with basic literacy, (3) Families who want to learn together, (4) Educators seeking differentiation tools, (5) Workforce development programs improving employee skills, and (6) Libraries and community organizations serving adult learners.

What subjects does Ludwitt cover?

Ludwitt covers Mathematics (arithmetic through algebra), Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary Development, Logic and Critical Thinking, Latin, Greek, and Writing Skills. All subjects feature adaptive difficulty that adjusts in real-time to each learner's performance.

Is Ludwitt free?

There is no subscription. A new Basics learner receives $5 in credits once, the first time they pick a starting grade. AI features draw on that balance and are charged from the tokens the model uses. More credits are one-time purchases: $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, or $250, or a custom deposit from $5 to $500. The server rejects deposits outside that range.

How It Works.

How does adaptive learning work?

Ludwitt uses an adaptive algorithm that continuously calibrates to each learner. After every answer, the system updates the learner's skill model and selects problems that maintain optimal challenge (approximately 70-85% success rate). This keeps learners in their Zone of Proximal Development—challenged enough to grow but not frustrated.

What is the Zone of Proximal Development?

The Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) is a learning science concept from psychologist Lev Vygotsky. It describes the sweet spot between what a learner can do independently and what they can't do at all—the zone where learning happens most effectively with appropriate support. Ludwitt's adaptive algorithm keeps you in this zone.

How does the AI tutor work?

Our AI tutor, powered by Anthropic Claude, provides personalized explanations when you get stuck. It can explain concepts in multiple ways, break down problems step-by-step, offer hints rather than answers, and adjust its explanations based on your level. The AI is available 24/7 and never gets frustrated.

What is spaced repetition?

Spaced repetition is a learning technique based on Hermann Ebbinghaus's research on memory. Instead of cramming, skills are reviewed at increasing intervals—just before you would forget them. This builds long-term retention more effectively than massed practice. Ludwitt automatically schedules reviews at optimal intervals.

Adult Learning.

What is the adult literacy crisis?

PIAAC 2023 (Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies) reveals alarming declines: US adult literacy scores dropped 12 points (271→258) from 2017-2023. Now 28% of US adults perform at the lowest literacy level (up from 19%) and 34% struggle with basic numeracy (up from 29%). This means approximately 54 million Americans struggle with basic reading and 66 million with basic math.

Is Ludwitt private for adult learners?

Yes, absolutely. We designed Ludwitt with privacy-first principles specifically because many adults feel stigma around rebuilding foundational skills. You can practice at home, on your own schedule, with no one watching. Your progress data is private, and there's no requirement to share or compare with others.

Can adults really improve their literacy and numeracy?

Yes! Research shows that adult brains remain plastic and capable of learning throughout life. The key is consistent practice with appropriate difficulty—exactly what adaptive learning provides. Many adults struggling with literacy/numeracy had poor educational experiences as children; given a second chance with modern methods, significant improvement is possible.

How long does it take to see improvement?

Most learners see measurable improvement within 2-4 weeks of consistent practice (15-30 minutes daily). However, rebuilding foundational skills is a journey, not a sprint. Our spaced repetition system ensures that gains are retained long-term, not just crammed and forgotten.

Features & Technology.

What learning science is Ludwitt based on?

Ludwitt is built on learning-science principles with strong evidence: (1) Spaced retrieval practice (Adesope et al. 2017 meta of 217 studies: g ≈ 0.61), (2) Interleaved practice across skills (Rohrer et al. 2020 cluster-RCT: d = 0.83 vs blocked), (3) Optimal challenge in the Zone of Proximal Development (Vygotsky), (4) Worked examples that fade as expertise grows (the expertise-reversal effect), (5) Feedback on reasoning, not just answers. We use mastery thresholds for advancement but pair them with spaced revisits — Bloom's often-cited "2-sigma" mastery-learning claim has not replicated; the honest effect size is closer to 0.5 SD (Kulik et al. 1990).

How is Ludwitt different from other learning apps?

Ludwitt uniquely: (1) Explicitly serves adult learners, not just K-12, (2) Uses research-backed adaptive algorithms, not just random problems, (3) Provides AI tutoring 24/7 powered by Anthropic Claude, (4) Offers privacy-first design removing stigma for adults, (5) Includes unique classical languages (Latin, Greek), (6) Enables families to learn together.

What devices can I use Ludwitt on?

Ludwitt works on any device with a modern web browser—smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. The interface is responsive and adapts to your screen size. No app download is required; just visit www.ludwitt.com.

Is my data secure?

Yes. Ludwitt is COPPA compliant (for users under 13), FERPA compliant (for educational records), and follows GDPR guidelines. We use industry-standard encryption, never sell user data, and our privacy policy clearly explains how data is handled.

Pricing & Plans.

What does the free tier include?

There is no separate free tier and no daily AI allowance. A new Basics learner receives $5 in credits once, the first time they pick a starting grade. Further AI use spends those credits. There is no premium subscription.

What do credits pay for?

Credits pay for AI use. The charge comes from the input and output tokens the model returns. There is no premium subscription. Credits you buy stay in the account until they are used. Institutions hold a separate pool, described in the educator FAQ.

Is there a family plan?

No. Ludwitt does not sell a family plan. A parent can view a linked student's progress after the student or an admin invites them and they accept. Each account has its own credit balance.

Do you offer institutional pricing?

Yes. An institution funds a shared credit pool. Deposits are $5 to $500, and the server enforces that range. A sandbox starts at 5 seats and rises to 100 after the first successful funding. Classes, join links, and checkout are covered in the educator FAQ. Larger licensing conversations stay on the institutional pricing page.
